Finnish Design at New York MoMA

New York's MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) is propably the best known place for the contemporary art and design.

Finnish design is well presented in the collections of the museum. You will find the key works of such finnish designers as Alvar Aalto, Kaj Franck, Tapio Wirkkala, Timo Sarpaneva and Nanny Still in the permanent collection. I was also surpised to find the Globlow lamp designed by Valvomo, a group of designers.

But when you step into the MoMA Store, you will be seeing even more. Aalto vases, Iittala Essence and Aarne glassware, Marimekko textiles, Palaset plastic items and many other products of Finnish original are available on the store.

Even the wall behind the cash registers features a picture of the Aalto vase.

Otherwise, MoMA is a place worth visiting - just remember to reserve enough time. Couple of hours won't just be enough!
